XIII. Ecology and Environmental Protection
The eco-city campaign continued. By end of 2016, the local tree coverage reached 25.5% with the city’s green coverage hitting 43.1%. The per capita green land space rose to 14.5 m2. 9 green land projects like the Taojia Village Green Land project, Taoyuan Rd. Green Land project, South Hongmei Rd. Green Land project, and Meiran Dyeing Mill Waterfront Green Land project were completed. Plus, the Huang Liangbang Park project and Xiao Jiuhua Green Land project were advanced as well. The He Jiatang Eco-green Lane was completed and the green land at the crossroads of West Laodong Rd. and Qinye Rd. was basically finished. Several sections alongside the old Grand Canal were cleaned and upgraded. Moreover, Changzhou won the National Forest City title in 2016.
The local environment continued to improve. In 2016, 1,083 air pollution prevention and treatment projects and 475 water cleaning projects were completed. The year also saw 246 days of good air quality, which made the good air quality rate at 67.4%. The PM2.5 concentration in urban areas fell by 10.5% over 2015 and the number of heavily-polluted days dropped by 13 days. Water from drinking water sources remained 100% up to standard.
